DE MONTREUIL’S “LA MUJER DE MI HERMANO” BREAKS LATIN BOX OFFICE RECORD IN THE USA.

HOLLYWOOD, CA (April 23, 2006) — LA MUJER DE MI HERMANO opened on April 14, 2006 with 205 copies nationwide, becoming the largest distributed Latin film in North American history. LA MUJER DE MI HERMANO surpassed previous Latin films’ box office records for such films as DIARIO DE MOTOCICLETAS, Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN and EL CRIMEN DE EL PADRE AMARO in the weekend of its premiere.

Ricardo de Montreuil, the 31-year-old Peruvian director of LA MUJER DE MI HERMANO, is thrilled with his film’s welcome in the United States.

The Los Angeles Times praised the movie directed by de Montreuil, '"For a movie about an inter-family dalliance, it's far more pragmatic than you might expect, and far more humane.” As well as the Arizona Republic, which stated “A lean, sexy, scandalous tale involving a love triangle, betrayal and psychological revenge”.

LA MUJER DE MI HERMANO is the first movie directed by Ricardo de Montreuil and includes stunning performances of the Uruguayan Barbara Mori, the Peruvian Christian Meier, the Colombian Manolo Cardona and the Chilean Beto Cuevas, ex-lead of 'La Ley'. The film is based on the bestseller La Mujer de mi Hermano by Jaime Bayly, who adapted his book to screenplay.

LA MUJER DE MI HERMANO was distributed in late 2005 and early 2006 in all Latin America including Brazil, by Twentieth Century Fox, becoming one of the most successful Latin American films. LA MUJER DE MI HERMANO opened number one in Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela among others.

Currently, the film is being distributed by Lions Gate, which received the Oscar for best movie in 2005 for CRASH. “We couldn't be in better hands,” expressed de Montreuil referring to Lions Gate. “When we started shooting LA MUJER DE MI HERMANO, we never imagined that it would come this far. Being a totally independent movie and with a low budget, we had to maximize the few resources we had at hand.” In regards to future projects de Montreuil commented, 'I am reading several scripts and meeting with producers but I haven't decided on anything yet. I want to take some time to choose a good script.”
