Vancouver, B.C., Canada The Second International Conference on Creative Expression, Communication and Dementia at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, May 5 and 6, 2006, with pre-conference workshops May 4, 2006. The Society for the Arts in Dementia Care, the Conference Host, has already gained recognition and support from communities, families, agencies, funding institutions, and professionals in the progressive movement of creative expression opportunities in dementia care. More than 150 people from local, national and international communities are expected to attend the conference.
The CECD Conference was created as a response to the needs of the growing population of seniors with dementia. While there is no known cure, the medical model of care needs to be reinforced, with approaches that promote social and creative well-being.
The program will feature keynote speakers known for their research on brain functions and creative approaches to care: Dr. Howard Feldman, University of British Columbia; Dr. Rémi Quirion, McGill University; Dr. Anne Basting from the University of Milwaukee, and Dr. Shaun McNiff, Lesley University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The conference is open to Professionals, Practitioners and the interested public; all activities will take place at the Ponderosa Centre, UBC campus.
