First “Lunch Club” Meeting in London

WHAT: The first Lunch Club meeting in the UK for urban people who want to connect socially by creating friendships and a sense of community while eating a great meal. More than 100 people have already signed up online at www.thelunchclub.com.

WHO: Founded by New Yorker Jared Nissim, a 32-year old technical writer who got lonely working from his home in December of 2001; Nissim is flying in for the event to launch the London branch of his innovative organization. Also, one hundred people of all ages and walks of life, who have signed up.

WHERE and WHEN: At the Ping Pong Dim Sum Restaurant for Dim Sum, on Marlborough Street, London, Sunday, April 23, 2006, at 1:00 p.m.

WHY: As Mr. Nissim says, “Because eating alone is boring.” Also, to develop an easy and comfortable way for people to make new friends and overcome big city isolation.

Over four years ago, while living in the East Village of New York City, Mr. Nissim looked for lunch partners on Craig’s List, a popular web site where millions of Americans find everything from apartment rentals to dating partners. The response, which began small, now has 8, 500 members, with 300 new ones signing each month. Lunch, Sunday brunch and dinner meetings, as well as dances, game nights, holiday gatherings and many more are all part of the Club’s growing activities. Branches of The Lunch Club have been started in other American cities including Boston, Mass and Washington, DC. The organization has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, American television news stories and international wire service reports. The London branch is the first Club to open in the UK.
