Alex’s Coupons Donates $1000.00 to PBMT Family Support Program

April 19, 2006, GIG HARBOR, WA – Alex’s Coupons, (http://www.alexscoupons.com) a website devoted to providing the latest deals and coupons to consumers, recently donated one thousand dollars to PBMT (Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant) Family Support Program at Duke University Medical Center.

Alex’s Coupons was launched by Todd & Andrea Martini in October 1999 to raise money for their daughter Alexandra's medical treatment. Alex was diagnosed with Leukemia in November 1998 at the age of 10 months and underwent life saving Cord Blood Transplants in 1999 and 2003. Now that Alex has completed treatment, the Martinis have instituted a charitable donation program using some of the proceeds from Alex's Coupons. Each month the Martinis make a donation of at least $1000 to a different cancer related charity.

"The success of Alex's Coupons has obviously far exceeded our expectations and has enabled us to realize a dream of ours, giving back to the charities who supported us during Alex's treatment." In addition to Alex’s Coupons, the Martinis are very involved in activism and fundraising on behalf of several cancer related charities, including the National Childrens Cancer Society and Corporate Angel Network.

Schroeder, Director, PBMT Family Support Program. “Our unit, the Duke PBMT unit is the largest dedicated pediatric transplant unit in the world. Here, over the course of a year, 100 children from all over the world face life threatening illnesses. They are accompanied by their families and have had to relocate to Durham and Duke Children’s Hospital in a last effort to save their lives. Despite being critically ill, they are always determined to have a good time whenever possible. We thank Alex's Coupons and all other donors and supporters for partnering with us in this endeavor."

The Duke University Medical Center PBMT Family Support Program is a volunteer-based program that provides specific programs, resources and services to patients and families during their time at Duke including: Best Buddy Volunteers, CellMates (kids' support group), ArtMates (kids' craft time), Crisis Team, and more. It was founded in May of 1997 as a partnership, born through the efforts of families who experienced transplant at Duke and the PBMT staff. The program seeks to embrace families and fully address their needs during the arduous transplant process.
