C.O.U.M.B.A. Foundation host Musicians for Africa Malaria Day at Bohemian Caverns in Washington DC on April 25th 2006.

Conscientious Organizations Using Music to Bring Awareness Foundation (C.O.U.M.B.A. Foundation Inc-www.COUMBA.com) will be hosting an event on April 25th, AFRICA Malaria Day, at the historical Bohemian Caverns located at 2001 11th Street in the Heart of Washington DC, from 8-10pm.

The organization that aims at raising awareness and money for important causes with the use of music, mostly from the African continent, will having a variety of talent performing, including Cheick Hamala Diabate from Mali, Proverbs reggae Band, Jeremy Lodeon from Martinique, Luko Adjaffi from Haiti and others, to raise awareness and money for Malaria.

As a 501-c-3 non profit organization, C.O.U.M.B.A. Foundation is teaming up with Vestergaard Frandsen, the largest manufacturer of treated mosquito nets in the world, to donate and distribute a free mosquito net in rural areas of Africa for each person who attends the event.

There are over 300 million cases of Malaria reported around the world each year, over 1 million deaths are a result. Ninety percent of these deaths, occur in Africa. Malaria is the biggest killer of children under the age of 5.

"This is a disease that has been ignored for too long by the mainstream media and we are here to make sure something is done to stop people from dying from a disease that is 100% preventable and treatable" said Coumba Makalou, the Executive Director of C.O.U.M.B.A. Foundation, " with the help of Vestergaard Frandsen and other organizations that are socially conscious it is our goal to take baby steps that will turn into giant leaps and help eradicate and raise awareness about Malaria."
