eWEEK Magazine Awards SWsoft Virtuozzo Analyst’s Choice
April 14, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
HERNDON, Va.– SWsoft Virtuozzo for Linux 3.0 earned the “Analyst’s Choice” rating by eWEEK Labs in a cover story in the April 3, 2006 issue of the magazine. Senior Analyst Jason Brooks cited Virtuozzo for its “consolidation and utilization benefits – while providing some very slick management options.” Virtuozzo is operating system-level server virtualization software that turns a single physical server into multiple virtual environments – making efficient use of resources by enabling maximum server performance and utilization.

In it, Brooks stated that Virtuozzo delivers “system management benefits that competing products aren't designed to match.” In five key performance indicator categories, Virtuozzo received the highest “Excellent” rating in three: Usability, Performance and Management. In the Hardware and Software Support categories, the ratings were “Good.”
“The performance, manageability and automation capabilities of Virtuozzo earned the top rating by one of the most respected independent labs,” said Serguei Beloussov, CEO, SWsoft. “We are gratified by the results of this eWEEK Lab review, which reflect the experience we’ve gained from having more than 8,000 physical servers with 400,000 virtual environments of Virtuozzo in production around the world.”
The eWEEK recognition follows SWsoft Virtuozzo winning the “Best Virtualization Solution” Product Excellence Award at LinuxWorld Expo in Boston last week.
With the power of modern CPUs from both Intel and AMD (including the latest dual-core offerings), hardware is often under utilized. With operating system-level server virtualization technology, the server can effectively be split into many small ones, which are fully functional and isolated virtual environments. Each of those can be running its tasks so that the whole server is utilized more efficiently.
The proliferation of servers in the data center has led to increased complexity and costs. Virtualization helps to reverse this trend by dramatically reducing the need for adding physical servers (and their associated capital, power, software and management costs).
Virtuozzo creates isolated, secure virtual environments on a single Linux or Windows physical server – enabling greater server utilization and superior availability. Virtuozzo software comes with a suite of management tools that help automate the management of virtual servers, which perform and execute like independent servers with their own memory, configuration files, users and applications running on a single operating system.
