VALLEY CENTER, Calif. — Protea starter seed packs, imported directly from a farm in South Africa and distributed by Cape Flower Fields of California, are now available for order online at
http://www.DiscoverProtea.com. Each pack is presented in an eco-friendly recycled
envelope containing everything needed to grow indigenous South African Protea.

Prized by floral designers as some of the most exotically beautiful and
long-lasting flowers in the world, Protea flowers come in many forms, from tiny dwarf flowers to shrubs and even trees. Their blooms range in size from 2 to 12 inches in diameter.

As a family, Proteaceae is so diverse that it defied classification until 1735, when the Swedish naturalist Linneaus named the family after Proteus, the mythic Greek god known for easily changing shapes. An appropriate name indeed for this plant that presents a breathtaking array of shapes, sizes, hues and textures. There are over 1,700
different species of this diverse family identified so far, although only about 150 are grown commercially.

Protea starter packs contain seeds, smoke primers and full growing instructions along with all the individual plant details. Cape Flower Fields has successfully grown
Protea from these starter packs for years. Although Cape Flower Fields cannot guarantee the successful germination of every seed, they welcome calls from home gardeners seeking information and advice.
