"The Gousters" climbed to the 32nd spot on Roots Music Report on 3-31-06. Walt Cronin met Zander Schloss on the set of a now cult film called "Repo Man" by Alex Cox. Zander played the part of "Kevin" opposite Emilio Estevez' character "Otto." Harry Dean Stanton had the lead role. Zander went on to writing many of the soundtracks for Alex on "Sid & Nancy" and "Straight to Hell" writing with Joe Strummer on that film. Walt videotaped the auditions. He is also the bass player for "The Circle Jerks' a founding punk band in Los Angeles. Walt reunited with Zander when Zander rented the studio apt over Walt's garage and thus began the collaboration on "The Gousters" five years in the making. Three years were spent in the basement and two years at Brian Susko's Westside Recorder Studio in Santa Monica. It was there that musician friends helped lay down the lush violin backgrounds heard on a number of the songs and other tracks.
Three of the songs are from Zander's former band "Low & Sweet Orchestra" with James Fearnely of "The Pogues" on accordion and Dermot Mulrooney, now an actor. The band was dropped with a few hundred other artists from Interscope Records during the late 90's culling.
Walt Cronin is a Vietnam Veteran with Post-Traumatic Stress having served as a Navy Corpsman (medic) with a Marine platoon in Vietnam in 1970.
It is their wish to find ( or be found) by a label and establish a publishing deal. They are the only band listed on Roots Music Report with a Demo CD. Running Times Music commented: "It's almost unheard of but hope this is an indicator of the Indies being taken more seriously." They hope to continue to get more airplay and the consideration of someone in the business to take a good hard "listen" to what they have accomplished so far.
