The Optar Illumina Super 16 Series from Optar International represents the industry's only full set of high speed prime cine lenses specifically designed for optimal Super 16 performance. Each lens combines high quality, multi-coated optics with a sound mechanical construction at a price that's in line with the cost-conscious nature of 16mm production. The Illumina High Speed Prime Series consists of six Super 16 lenses ranging from 8mm to 50mm, all with a maximum aperture of T1.3. The Illumina 8mm and 9.5mm lenses are the fastest Super 16 prime lenses available today in these focal lengths.

The Super 16 film format utilizes the cost-effectiveness of 16mm film for widescreen applications. By putting to use the space once reserved for a second set of perforations, the Super 16 aspect encompasses a much greater surface area of the negative than what is used in standard 16mm.

As a result, those lenses which can be used for Super 16 shooting need to cover the aspect of approximately 20% wider than standard 16mm.

Because Illumina lenses have been optically designed to effectively cover Super 16 from the outset, they render images of greater resolution and less distortion in the far corners of the Super 16 frame.
