December 18, 2003 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
CLEVELAND & YOUNGSTOWN — The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (OH) today launched a comprehensive eBook service designed to stimulate awareness and adoption of emerging technologies in the community. The new system was built by OverDrive, Inc., a recognized leading developer of eBook solutions for libraries, and funded entirely with bequest monies. Patrons can visit (http://ebooks.libraryvisit.org) and browse hundreds of eBooks from leading publishers including HarperCollins, Time Warner, John Wiley and others. Selections can be checked out and downloaded to PCs, laptops, Tablet PCs and PDA devices - 24 hours a day. The eBooks automatically check themselves back into the collection. In addition, patrons can place titles on hold and receive automatic email notification when they become available for downloading.
Carlton Sears, Library Director said, "Our library is continuing its mission to inspire increased knowledge, education and growth throughout our community. We believe eBooks are one way to help achieve this goal. We chose OverDrive because they provide the best collection of eBooks, while making it easy for patrons with a library card to download them from our website and read offline — at home or at the office, Mr. Sears added.
Steve Potash, CEO of OverDrive said, "We're proud to be working with Youngstown Public Library to provide families with easy access to best-selling eBooks. Students can download Cliff Notes to aid in homework assignments, parents can download the latest fiction, business and reference titles. There's something for everyone to borrow, read and enjoy," Mr. Potash added.
