SANTA'S HELPERS DELIVER CHRISTMAS GIFTS TO TATTERED ANGLES
Local Spanish Mennonite Church Receives $2,500
SALEM, Oregon—December 23, 2004—Members of the Comunidad Cristiana Vida Nueva church took on the role of Santa's elves thanks to a $2,500 donation made just in time for the holidays.
In church this Sunday, Christmas presents wrapped in shinny paper were placed in each needy child's arms. Parents' eyes form the local congregation lit up when they realized these beautiful boxes were for their children.
"The donation was an answer to our prayers," said the church's pastor Gilberto Estrada. "We were short on funds and were worried we wouldn't be able give gifts to the children in need this year."
The prayers were answered, and the donation was large enough to provide Christmas presents for the less fortunate children throughout the congregation and community, plus a reserve for future charitable giving's, along with covering travel expenses for Estrada.
The donation was made by a fellow non-profit organization called Buyers Fund-Neighborhood Gold. This newer charity provides grants that cover the down payment on a home allowing hopeful homeowners achieve their dream of homeownership.
Jonathan Porter, the local representative for Buyers Fund-Neighborhood Gold, worked alongside Steven Hernandez, Branch Manager of Chase Manhattan, to decide which charity needed these funds most.
"I knew the pastor and all the good work they do in this community," said Hernandez. "I wanted to reward them for being such a wonderful force and influence in our neighborhood."
Porter hopes this $2,500 donation will be one of many future donations that Buyers Fund-Neighborhood Gold will be able to gift to local charities.
"We look forward to continued success in increasing homeownership in Salem as well as making similar donations to improve our community,' said Porter.
