SEATTLE, WA – (March 17, 2006) Washington CEO magazine just released its list of “Amazing Lawyers,” as determined by its extensive survey of lawyers and judges, and Harris & Moure garnered two of the three slots for Amazing International Lawyers. On top of this, the magazine itself highlighted five lawyers it deemed to be the “Most Amazing” and Steve Dickinson of Harris & Moure was one of those. These awards were announced in the March, 2006, issue of Washington CEO magazine. The March issue was a special edition focused on lawyers and legal issues. Dubbed “The Communicator,” Dickinson was recognized for his unique abilities to use his knowledge of Chinese language and culture to handle a wide range of legal issues involving China. After obtaining his law degree at the University of Washington, Dickinson spent several years working and teaching in Japan and China. Dickinson then went into the private practice of law in Seattle for many years, where he eventually headed up the international law group at one of Seattle’s biggest law firms. Dickinson then left private practice to teach international law at the University of Washington Law School and to head its program training Chinese legal professionals. Dickinson returned to private practice with Harris & Moure in 2004 and headed straight to China, where he currently spends about 80% of his time. “The Chinese lawyers with whom we work in China are always marveling at Steve’s deep knowledge of China and I have no doubt that gives him a huge edge over there,” says Dan Harris, founding partner of Harris & Moure. “Washington CEO certainly got it right on Steve — he really is amazing and we are thrilled to have him.”
Dickinson writes and lectures extensively on Chinese law and he recently completed a chapter on China’s new company law for the leading international corporate procedure deskbook. His work in China consists mostly of assisting non-Chinese companies in protecting their intellectual property rights (IPR) in China and in establishing the proper corporate form (joint venture, wholly foreign owned entity or WFOE, or representative office) for direct investment in China. Dickinson also oversees civil and criminal litigation in China involving Western companies and individuals.
Not only was Dickinson honored as one of just five “Amazing Lawyers” but he also was named, along with firm founder Dan Harris, as one of the top three International Lawyers in Washington State. Washington CEO conducted a survey of lawyers throughout Washington, asking attorneys to name the “most amazing lawyers” in several areas of expertise. Dickinson and Harris were cited by their peers as being tops in the field of International Law. Dan Harris heads up the King County Bar’s International Law Section and he too often writes and lectures on international law issues.
