Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series applications now being accepted for Class XXXI

The Stanley K. Lacy (SKL) Executive Leadership Series currently is accepting applications for Class XXXI. Applications are due May 8.

Formed in 1976, the SKL Executive Leadership Series informs and motivates emerging leaders and raises their awareness of community issues and sense of community trusteeship through seminars, tours, reading and interactions with experts, leaders and decision makers. From the pool of applicants, an anonymous committee of community leaders selects 25 participants for each year’s class. The selection committee endeavors to make each class reflective of the community in terms of gender, race and geographic and professional diversity.

Each class meets from September through May for monthly, full-day sessions that provide class members with an in-depth look at the pertinent issues facing our region, including education, government, health and human services, the justice system, diversity, quality of life, economic development and future plans for central Indiana.

Every class participant has the opportunity to:
§ Meet community, business and civic leaders and discuss with them in-depth the issues surrounding our area.
§ Gain a long-lasting, deep understanding of community issues, increasing participants’ capacity to serve our community.
§ Get hands-on, executive-level research, planning and development experience through committee work.
§ Build a network of community contacts, helpful in participants’ future community service efforts.
§ Develop positive and meaningful relationships with fellow class members and the class moderator.
§ Identify and/or pursue passions for addressing community concerns.

“The SKL Executive Leadership Series program is an excellent way for the community’s rising stars to focus their talents toward improving our community for decades to come,” said Roland M. Dorson, Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce president and a 1997 graduate of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series. “We encourage organizations to look deep within their ranks for those who best fit the SKL program’s criteria and support these emerging leaders through enrollment in the program.”

Applicants are selected on the basis of significant community involvement and professional achievement. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in community issues and a record of participation and achievement in voluntary community activities, occupy a position reflecting significant achievement relative to age and experience, have lived in the greater Indianapolis area for three or more years and be between the ages of 25 and 45.

The Series is named in honor of Stanley K. Lacy, an Indianapolis banker and active participant in civic projects, who died in a tragic automobile accident in 1973 at the age of 27. In that same year, his mother, Mrs. Howard J. Lacy, II, established a foundation in his memory and worked with the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce to develop a leadership program to prepare young professionals, active in community and civic projects, for positions of community problem-solving.
