SYDNEY - An Australian film production company Karbon Films is to begin filming a unique documentary feature in Rwanda, a country that was ravaged by Genocide 12 years ago.Following the emotive stories of six people, '100 DAYS IN PARADISE' (C) (working title) is a feature length documentary aimed at a worldwide audience. The feature is to be filmed during the 'HOPE RWANDA' event, a global humanitarian effort symbolically coinciding with the 100 days of horror in 1994 (April - July 2006, www.hoperwanda.org).
HOPE RWANDA is designed to bring hope to a paradise overlooked by the world for 12 years. In an unprecedented act of love, hundreds of organisations, relief agencies, surgeons, doctors, nurses, builders, teachers and volunteer workers from all over the world will form a unique partnership over 100 days to offer voluntary health services, construction hands and materials, education, leadership training and more to a nation emerging from brokenness.
In the midst of that journey towards hope are six individuals - A Rwandese mother, scarred, broken and searching for peace. The perpetrator of genocide seeking forgiveness. A young student lending fresh eyes to the events that took place here. The Australian humanitarian embodying global compassion. A wise politician working to rebuild a torn nation. A Rwandese youth hoping for a better future.
As a fresh insight into Rwanda’s past, present and future over a symbolic period of 100 days in 2006, '100 DAYS IN PARADISE' tackles themes of leadership, accountability, humanitarian intervention and social justice and points to the power of forgiveness and the triumph of the human spirit inspite of incredibly traumatic and seemingly insurmountable tragedy.
There is a global opportunity to distribute this film and a letter of intent has been received from a North American distributor for a theatrical release.
However Executive Producers Rod Hopping and Mark Reddy are appealing for funding to have the project completed.
"We are committed to making this project a reality and believe this is an exciting opportunity for Australians to get involved in giving voice to those who desperately need their story to be told. The production has been awarded 10BA tax deductibility status from the Australian government and presents an attractive opportunity for both private and corporate investors. At the end of the day, this film is for the people of Rwanda and will be a testament to a nation working to rebuild itself."
There are many possible options in regards to raising funding for this project.
• Personal investors* – deemed an Australian project, the film has obtained 10BA tax-deductible status for all Australian investors. This provides an immediate return on investment for those Australians who invest in the project.
• Sponsorship opportunities – there are a range of sponsorship packages available for corporates and individuals.
