Cookie Decorating in Vogue for the Crowne Plaza San Francisco - Union Square

SAN FRANCISCO – Golden brown sugar cookies dressed up with sweet frosting, sparkly sugars and colorful candies lined tables at the Crowne Plaza Union Square’s client appreciation celebration, “One Smart Cookie.” The unique cookie-decorating event, held on March 2, welcomed over 40 local clients to the hotel for an interactive gathering.

Breaking away from the standard client event, One Smart Cookie encouraged guests to get creative in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. Inspired by the city views from the hotel’s spectacular 30th floor ballroom, the Savoy, decorators-for-a-day created edible works of art on sugar cookies using royal icing, crystal sugars, raisins, coconut, bright candies and more.

“We wanted to try something new to express our appreciation for our clients,” Sissy Hemus, Marketing Manager for the hotel, says. “It was important to us to create a fun environment where guests could participate in something other than making small talk – we wanted our clients to interact with one another as well as the sales team.”

Many guests created imaginative cookie designs. Mari Zatman – who arrived in her grandmother’s apron from the 1930s – was awarded a one-night stay at the Crowne Plaza Union Square for her “Most Creative Cookie.” Zatman clipped iconic San Francisco images and phrases from brochures and decorated her cookie with them, creating a three-dimensional piece that featured pictures of the hotel, the Golden Gate Bridge and more.

“I enjoyed the challenge and the excitement as I put together my cookie,” Zatman says. “How exciting to have won the ‘Most Creative’ award!”

Other prizes awarded included a $250 Southwest Airlines – Priority Club® Rewards latest airline partner – giftcard to Katie Murphy, who designed the “Best Overall Cookie. Murphy’s design of a tropical bird and palm tree – using chocolate sprinkles for bark and chopped nuts for the beak – wowed the judges. Additionally, Kate Rezucha’s clean, modern and colorful cookie design featured an intricate pattern created with frosting and crystal sugar. Her “Smartest Design” cookie earned her a $250 giftcard for Any Hotel, Anywhere, Priority Club Rewards latest enhancement to earning free hotel stays.
