Occidental Building Renamed Coldwell Banker Building
Real Estate Asset Management Firm Renames Historic Raleigh Building

RALEIGH, NC – Billie Redmond, President of Coldwell Banker Commercial TradeMark Properties, has announced the company has renamed the Occidental Building at 1001 Wade Avenue in Raleigh. Formerly known by the name of its builder and owner, the Occidental Life Insurance Company, the historic 1955 building will now be known as the Coldwell Banker Building.

Coldwell Banker Commercial TradeMark Properties has relocated its corporate offices to the third floor of the building, the 1st and 2nd floors are home to Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston’s corporate offices. The fourth floor, an 11,000 square foot area, is currently available for tenancy.

The building was scheduled for demolition when Redmond saved it from the wrecking ball and had it reconstructed, restoring its limestone exterior and redoing the interior mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems. The original mahogany paneling, terrazzo floors and travertine granite walls were restored to their former luster. Restoration also included reconstructing and remodeling the lobby, hallway and bathrooms, sealing the existing windows, installing high-speed communications and a card-key security system, and replacing and upgrading the landscaping. Many of the site’s stately oak trees were preserved. Additional parking from Daniels Street and a drive connecting to Oberlin Court were added.

“After the reconstruction was finished and the building was restored to its historic splendor, we felt it deserved a new name,” said Redmond. “We named it the Coldwell Banker Building because it has become a Coldwell Banker corporate landmark in the Triangle and has been approved for the National Register of Historic Places.”
