Van Revell grew up on a dairy farm and milked cows until he went into the Navy at the age of 18. After the Navy, he joined the Maryland State Police and worked there for four years. He then spent the next 42 years selling insurance with State Farm before working for American Family Insurance for 11 years and the remainder of his career.
