Drinking Mojitos; A Great Way to Help the Gulf Coast

March 09, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Denver, Colorado-DU Student Hurricane Network. Many students head south for a week every spring, but the students who formed the DU branch of the Student Hurricane Network have a different idea about what to do with their spring break. They’re heading to New Orleans to assist not only with clean up efforts, but to lend a hand with the legal problems that have been plaguing the survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

Students at the Sturm College of Law of the University of Denver joined students from 55 other law schools throughout the nation to join the Student Hurricane Network. The SHN was formed to provide much needed volunteer assistance to overworked public interest lawyers and relief agencies attempting to cut through the mound of red tape generated after the disaster. Students have assisted with survivor’s FEMA claims regarding housing, insurance company’s failure to pay claims, and disputes as to the ownership of property, among many other issues. Law students are able to negotiate complicated insurance and government forms and act as spokespersons for survivors getting the “runaround” from insurance companies and government officials.

In order to help these law students in their quest, professionals are gathering at the Mynt Mojito Lounge on Thursday evening starting at 5:00PM. The Denver area is rallying behind this effort by bringing their friends, settle into a swanky lounge stool, and using their paper umbrellas to protect the victims of Hurricane Katrina. See you there;
