Travel and Transitions Explores Ottawa Landmarks
March 06, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News
Susanne Pacher, Publisher of Travel and Transitions explored the new Canadian War Museum and its special exhibition “Propaganda: Weapons of Mass Dissemination” on her recent visit to Ottawa during Winterlude, Ottawa’s famous winter festival. This new museum opened in May 2005, with a total collection of about 500,000 artifacts and it houses 4 permanent exhibitions. Designed by Raymond Moriyama, this unique building has an innovative design based on the theme of regeneration. Some of the unique features of the building are Morse Code windows in both English and French, reading “Lest We Forget” on the north peak, and other windows spell out the Museum’s initials “CWM”. Every November 11, at 11 am, and only on this day and at this hour, the sun shines through the window of the Museum’s Memorial Hall and illuminates the only artifact in this space: the headstone of Canada’s Unknown Soldier. The museum’s aim is to “Educate. Preserve. Remember” and it focuses strictly on Canada’s role in various armed conflicts throughout history.More information about the Canadian War Museum can be found at http://www.travelandtransitions.com/stories_photos/ottawa_war_museum.htm
