SURF Communications Solutions (“Surf”), a leading provider of high-capacity multimedia processing boards for the telecommunication infrastructure field, announced at the Texas Instruments Developer Conference (TIDC) that it is leveraging TI’s TMS320C6455 DSP Evaluation Module (EVM) to develop open architecture, multimedia processing solutions for IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks. Surf ports its media processing capabilities to the new TI DSP to create media gateway and media server subsystems that deliver audio, video, fax and modem over IP, mobile, wireline, and wireless networks. TI's C6455 DSP satisfies the need for high-performance, flexible and scalable silicon, facilitating reduced development costs and time-to-market. It encompasses tremendous multi-processing system performance and increased memory (2MB of L2 memory) into one single device, allowing developers of video applications to implement Surf’s advanced transcoding, transrating and mixing capabilities without sacrificing board real estate.
“The high-performance processing of TI's C6455 DSP and 2MB of internal memory will allow our customers to achieve greater densities and higher quality in their video applications,“ said Avi Fisher, CTO at Surf. “Additionally, since the C6455 device is 100% code compatible with previous TMS320C64x™ devices, porting our entire code base to the C6455 DSP is expected to be a low-risk and relatively quick effort. Moreover, our existing customers can easily expand their current audio-only solutions to support video as well, which greatly reduces their time-to-market and provides them with a distinct competitive advantage.”
"Surf is a valuable member of TI's Third Party Program, as evidenced by their continued drive towards innovation and their decision to become early adopters of our latest DSP," said Danny Petkevich, C6000 Platform Marketing Manager, TI. “Surf’s multimedia software solution enables customers to take advantage of the improved processing performance, high bandwidth interconnect of sRIO and internal memory of TI's C6455 DSP to design differentiated products in telecommunications, network and video infrastructure.”
