Equinix To Demonstrate Peering Relationship Process Through Interactive Simulation At Apricot Conference
February 28, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Sydney, Australia – February 28, 2006 –Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centres and Internet exchange services, today announced that it will present a unique interactive session on peering as well as an update on its Sydney peering platform at this year’s Asia Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational Technologies (APRICOT ). The session, titled “The Peering Game,” is designed for network managers and peering coordinators attending the conference in Perth, Australia from February 22 to March 3. William Norton, Cofounder and Chief Technical Liaison of Equinix, will conduct the session, which will enable attendees to participate via WiFi links and laptops with Java enabled browsers. The software for the simulation will use AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML), the popular new web development technique used by Google Maps, GMail, and other interactive web applications, to distribute simulation objects between participants and the audience. During the session, which will be held on March 1st at 11:00 AM, Norton will also discuss the current “Net Neutrality” debate and the feasibility of using peering ratios as the measuring metrics as content providers expand into more high bandwidth applications.
As a part of the session, four members of the audience will use their laptops and play the role of “peering coordinators.” Their laptops as well as the audience’s will be updated in real time as the participants build their networks, manage their transit commitments, enter into Internet Exchanges and negotiate “paid” peering. The audience will play the role of the market, helping to decide which players get bonus customers and traffic while others suffer equipment failures, etc. By mimicking the real world negotiations and co-opetition that ISPs face every day, the goal of the session is to demonstrate how the current peering ecosystem works, as well as areas where the process can be improved.
The following day, Akito Kurokawa, Equinix Asia Pacific’s Exchange Manager, will present at the Internet eXchange Special Interest Group (IX SIG) session being held at the APRICOT Conference at 2:00 PM. Kurokawa will provide an update on the Equinix Exchange platform at the company’s Sydney Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX®) center, and Equinix’s new agreements with NextGen Networks in Brisbane and Melbourne. The IX SIG forum acts as a platform for sharing information about the status and activities of Internet eXchange (IX) points in the Asia Pacific region.
Founded in 1996, APRICOT is Asia’s premier Internet summit that gathers the region’s industry players to facilitate knowledge sharing within the Internet community. This year’s event will take place from 22 February to 3rd March at the Convention & Exhibition Centre in Perth.
