Geocomp Corporation Appoints Babur R. Mian as Senior Vice President and Director of Operations and Thom Neff, PhD as Vice President

DATELINE: BOXBOROUGH, DEDHAM & WALTHAM, MASS…Geocomp Corporation, a leader in identifying and managing underground risks associated with the design, construction and operation of wide-ranging public and private works projects, has recently promoted Babur R. Mian, P.E. to Senior Vice President and Director of Operations and Thom Neff, Ph.D., P.E., to Vice President.

In his new role as Director of Operations, Mr. Mian will oversee all operations at Geocomp Corporation. Before his promotion, Mr. Mian held the position of Vice President and Director of Corporate Development where he was responsible for business development, operations and project support.

For more than 13 years, Mr. Main has successfully led a vast number of geotechnical engineering projects around the globe which include the Conway Bypass project in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; I-40 West Hill/Papermill Interchange in Knox County, Tennessee and Nablcus-Jenin Highway in the West Bank. Previous to Geocomp Corporation, Mr. Mian was Vice President and Director of Corporate Initiatives, at Wilbur Smith Associates, Inc., a full service infrastructure consulting firm with 65 offices around the world.

Mr. Mian holds a BS and MS in Civil Engineering, as well as an MBA. He is a registered professional engineer in multiple states. Mr. Mian is the co-chair of ARTBA YELC business management committee in addition to serving on the YELC Board of Directors. He is also a member of ASCE and Chi Epsilon.

“My immediate goal is to improve efficiency. By doing so, we will certainly be in a strong position to meet our business objective of 25 percent growth per year,” explained Mr. Mian.

A native of Pakistan, Mr. Mian resides in Waltham, Mass.

Mr. Neff will continue in his role as Director of Consulting for Geocomp Corporation and will concentrate his efforts on management and business development. Prior to joining Geocomp, Mr. Neff was a Project Director at Modern Continental Construction of Cambridge, Mass responsible for technical oversight in major infrastructure projects, and was involved in corporate strategy for marketing and business development, particularly overseas initiatives. Previous to that, Mr. Neff was a Vice President at Parsons, Brinckerhoff, Quade & Douglas, Inc., a consulting firm with 250 offices worldwide. His last position there was as Chief Geotechnical Engineer for the $14.7B Central Artery/Tunnel Project in Boston, MA. He holds a BS in civil engineering, an MS in structural engineering, and a Ph.D. in geotechnical engineering.

According to Mr. Neff, “I’m very excited. Everyone in each of our divisions works together quite well. I intend to create even better synergy within our product, testing and consulting divisions to better serve the needs of our clients.”

Mr. Neff is a registered professional engineer in the states of Ohio, Massachusetts, Florida and Oregon. He currently lives in Dedham, Mass., with his wife, Sue McDonough.
