Edina, MN, February 17, 2006 - Botox® injections are the fastest-growing cosmetic procedure in the industry, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. In 2004, 3 million people in the U.S. received Botox injections and from 2000 to 2004, there was a 240% increase in the number of people acquiring these treatments. But two Minneapolis physicians say that despite the growing popularity, many questions still linger regarding the procedure.Dr. Mark and Elizabeth Hagberg, owners of the Skin Rejuvenation Clinic located in Edina, Minnesota spend much of their time educating people about Botox injections.
“Botox is a non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces frown lines, forehead creases and crows feet,” Dr. Elizabeth explained. “The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily inhibiting the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance.”
“Many people tell me they don’t want to try Botox because they fear being left with a ‘frozen face’ look,” she said. “What they don’t realize is that Botox can be used to help perfect the arch of the eyebrow or in some cases, even balance an uneven eyebrow. Botox injections do not have to be an ‘all or nothing’ treatment. A skilled injector can soften lines and even out the symmetry of your face without causing the dreaded frozen look.”
Dr. Mark added that the technique of the injector is key to a successful result. “You want to make sure the person performing your Botox treatment is qualified to do so. At the Skln Rejuvenation Clinic, a board-certified physician performs all of our injections and although I feel this is best, just make certain you know the person treating you is experienced and qualified to do so,” he said.
Elizabeth Hagberg M.D. graduated from the University of Minnesota with an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and a degree in Medicine. She is board-certified through the American Academy of Family Practice. Dr. Elizabeth has had a long-time interest in Dermatology and has continued her education in the field of cosmetic skin care.
