Omni Releases eControl 2.0 for Cross-platform Identity Management

EDMONTON, Canada – Feburary 17, 2006 – Omni Technology Solutions Inc. (Omni) announced the immediate availability of eControl 2.0, a web-based, "ZERO Rights" user account management solution for Novell, Microsoft and mixed and multiple Active Directory, Exchange, eDirectory and GroupWise networks. eControl empowers help desk operators, junior administrators, support staff and end-users to perform restricted sets of user account management and creation tasks from a browser, without requiring any trustee assignments, permissions, access to the file systems, or complex administration tools.Mergers, acquisitions, security and privacy requirements – and the potentially devastating lawsuits for non-compliance – have increased the need for systems and processes that simplify user account management in mixed networks. Many IT administrators are faced with the chaos, security and regulatory compliance challenges of using multiple applications to manage thousands of users, distributed globally, across complex, mixed and multiple eDirectory, GroupWise, Active Directory and Exchange networks.
"With eControl 2.0, senior IT administrators can securely delegate common user account management tasks to junior administrators and support staff," says Aldo Zanoni, CEO of Omni. "Non-technical users can perform specific sets of tasks, such as resetting GroupWise account passwords, creating new users in Exchange, managing distribution and group lists and unlocking intruder lockout, without requiring any trustee assignments, permissions, complex administration tools or access to the file systems. eControl 2.0 allows system administrators to completely lock down access to information and resources on their networks."
Regulatory legislation, such as Sarbanes-Oxley, Gramm-Leach-Bliley, HIPAA and PIPEDA, requires that organisations implement appropriate security measures to protect sensitive customer and corporate data. External auditors often find hundreds of orphaned or dormant accounts that threaten system security, or cases where junior administrators or divisional managers have been given full access to file systems, email systems and directory systems in order to use the complex administration tools required to perform routine user account management tasks.
"eControl's complete audit log and password change notification features," says Aldo Zanoni, "were designed to enhance security and regulatory compliance. Organisations can now keep a tight rein on data access and account changes, while being more operationally efficient. The impact and return on investment with eControl is immediate. Research shows that password self-service alone, just one of eControl's features, can save as much as $650,000 per year in a typical 10,000-user organisation."
