Great Lakes Pickling Winner of coveted Macomb Business Award

Leaders from Macomb County recently recognized Great Lakes Pickling Company with a Macomb Business Award at the seventh annual awards breakfast. The award honors Great Lakes Pickling with the Hidden Gem Award – unique Made-in-Macomb handcrafted pickles that more people should know about! The award winning pickles include many unique flavors including Hearty Horseradish and Bloody Mary. Along with pickles the company makes fresh, all natural pickle juice, and a line of do it yourself pickle spice kits you can make at home.

"To receive such a level of recognition is really quite humbling," said Beverly Patterson as she accepted the award. "It's amazing what started as a small seed of an idea has grown before our eyes." Business leaders from across the region attended the seventh annual Macomb Business Awards at the Sterling Inn Banquet and Conference Center in Sterling Heights on Tuesday, April 23. Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel joined Vicky Rad, director of the Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development in recognizing the company. "It's become quite a coveted award," Hackel said of the crystal trophy that he and his fellow emcees including Huel Perkins, WJBK-TV (Fox 2) news anchor and Charlie Langton, legal analyst for WJBK-TV (FOX 2) and WWJ-AM (950 Newsradio), handed out during the morning presentation.

A panel of judges reviewed 71 nominations and selected winners in each category. Judges included: Gene Lovell – president and CEO of First State Bank, Karen Smith – executive director of Leadership Macomb, Jim Sawyer – president of Macomb Community College, Mike Lee – managing editor of Crain's Detroit Business and Vicky Rad – interim director of Macomb County Planning and Economic Development.
