Torrance, CA, 2/16/06 – The South Bay Orchid Society’s 2006 Spring Show and Sale (http://southbayorchidsociety.com) will take place at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center on March 4th and 5th. The public will be able to buy orchids directly from California and Hawaiian commercial growers and hear guest speakers on how to grow and bloom orchids. The event also includes an AOS and CSA judged orchid show. On display will be orchids by the commercial growers, orchid societies, and local amateur orchid enthusiasts. General admission is $5 and $4 for seniors. Commercial growers and orchid societies attending the show will create magnificent orchid displays in the main hall for public viewing. Plants brought by local enthusiasts for AOS and CSA ribbon judging will also be displayed.
A panel of accredited AOS (American Orchid Society) and CSA (Cymbidium Society of America) judges will arrive from throughout Southern California. Judging will take place in the main display hall. Orchid entries for judging are open to the general public. All orchids types will be accepted for judging. During last year's show, judges presented 5 AOS and CSA awards along with 200+ first, second, and third place ribbons in 102 orchid classifications.
There will be a separate orchid sales hall filled with commercial orchid growers from California, and two bringing their plants all the way from Hawaii. Orchid growing supplies, books, and boutique items will also be for sale.
Visitors are welcome to attend any of the eight demonstrations by commercial growers, suppliers, and accomplished society members. These demonstrations are oriented towards the beginner with topics about orchid care, repotting, pest control, and semi-hydroponic orchid growing. "People tell me that growing these things is hard. Well, balderdash! I’ve now learned that there are five simple things that I needed to know to grow orchids successfully. Over the last year I have bought several new orchids and I almost always have something blooming in the house." says Don Goss, who attended last year's spring show for the first time. There is no additional charge to attend the demonstrations. The society is committed to educating the public on how to grow and bloom orchids successfully.
The show is being held at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center, located at 3330 Civic Center Drive North, Torrance, CA. A map and further details can be found at http://southbayorchidsociety.com/Show/.
