ABIM Foundation Launches Trust Practice Challenge
January 08, 2019 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 8, 2019 - The ABIM Foundation today announced its launch of a Trust Practice Challenge, an initiative to address the "trust gap" in health care by identifying practices that foster trust and trustworthiness in various settings and aspects of the health care system.Trust is known to be an essential attribute of effective health care, and research has shown that the quality of health outcomes depends on a stable foundation of trusting relationships. Yet trust in health care has been in steady decline in the United States over the past several decades.
The Trust Practice Challenge is open to anyone in health care, and seeks examples of existing practices that clearly build or rebuild trust. All entrants will become members of a vanguard group interested in taking action to drive change, and winners will present their submissions at the ABIM Foundation's 2019 Forum, an annual gathering of the nation's thought leaders in health care, to be held August 3-6.
The ABIM Foundation, which focuses on strengthening medical professionalism in order to improve health care, plans to promote winning entries by assembling a compendium of replicable and scalable practices that have helped build or rebuild trust in health care.
"Trust is indispensable to achieving high quality and effectiveness in modern health care," said Richard J. Baron, MD, President and CEO of the ABIM Foundation and its partner organization, the American Board of Internal Medicine. "We want to promote practices that enhance certainty, confidence and reliability within crucial relationships that can significantly impact health outcomes."
The Trust Practice Challenge asks health care stakeholders to identify within their clinical sphere and/or organization, what practices have generated trust between them and patients, clinicians, health systems, hospitals or medical groups, commercial insurers, regulators and policy makers. The submission deadline is February 28, 2019. For more information and an entry form, visit http://abimfoundation.org/what-we-do/initiatives/trust-practice-challenge
