CISCO TIFF File Format Support Now Available

February 15, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Amherst, NH - Black Ice Software is announcing the release of updated Document Conversion tools with added support of the CISCO TIFF file format for use with CISCO routers. The CISCO TIFF file format is important in IP based fax and data transfer applications since this format enables the router to start processing the TIFF image incrementally, before the entire image is received. Processing received data immediately saves valuable processing time when compared to the processing time required for a traditional TIFF file.

A traditional TIFF file begins with an 8-byte image file header which contains the offset for the first Image File Directory (IFD), followed by the Image data, which is followed by the first Image File Directory (IFD). The actual compressed data is before the Image File Directory (Tags). In the Image File Directory there is an offset for the image which points to the beginning of the file. Traditional TIFF files require the entire TIFF file to be received by a router before the processing of the image can begin.

The CISCO TIFF file format begins with an 8-byte image file header identifier which contains the offset for the first Image File Directory (IFD), followed by the first Image File Directory (IFD), and the Image data. Followed by the next IFD, the next Image data is a chain of images in the TIFF file. By placing the header information in front of the image, the decompression of the image can begin before the entire image is received, especially useful in time critical applications such as IP based processes.

Black Ice Software has released the Monochrome, Color and ColorPlus PDF Printer Drivers with added support for the CISCO TIFF file format. The Black Ice printer drivers are capable of converting any printable file into a variety of file formats, including the newly added CISCO TIFF Format.
