Funeral Cry: Lusa (Black), a new book by Shamir Kali Griffin, has been released by RoseDog Books.During the time of mourning close family members our souls spill out emotions as rich and vibrant as a color wheel. Funeral Cry: Lusa (Black) depicts emotions of endless grief, joy, hope, and inspiration in a journey of recovery and self-discovery. Poems such as "Amidst the Rain," "Perspectives," and the titular poem, "Funeral Cry (Lusa)," all depict the mixture of joy and pain found in fond memories. The writer's multicultural background presents in multilingual poems "El Infinito," "Hear me Again," and those of cultural richness in "Mystic Codes," "Funeral Cry (Homa)," "Ebony Maiden," and "The 28th Day."
About the Author
Shamir Kali Griffin originates from East Oakland, California, and is the 2014 Central Valley's Favorite Author Award recipient from the LGBTQ newspaper Community Link. In addition to this, Griffin has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Bakersfield, and four Associates Degrees from San Joaquin Delta College. Griffin is a member of the Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology and the Omicron-Mu chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Griffins' interests include working with members of migrant communities, activism, Grass Dancing, educating people on LGBTQ needs and history, and helping those living on the Autism Spectrum Disorder.
This book is dedicated to the memory and afterglow of the author's mother, Scottie Marie Dawson, who passed due to ovarian cancer. Griffin himself is a lung cancer survivor.
