Interlochen summer arts camp priority application deadline for financial aid approaching

INTERLOCHEN, Michigan—Financial aid officers at Interlochen Arts Camp urged educators today to remind prospective applicants that the priority application deadline for scholarship consideration is just a week away: February 15, 2006.Interlochen Arts Camp ( http://www.interlochen.org/camp/ )is known worldwide as the premier summer arts program for aspiring artists grades 3 through 12. The camp attracts students, faculty and staff from all 50 U.S. states and more than 40 countries. At Interlochen the world’s most talented and motivated students train intensively with world-class instructors and produce more than 400 presentations each summer in dance, theatre, creative writing, visual arts, music, and—new for 2006—motion picture arts.
Interlochen’s 79th Camp season dates are June 24 through August 7, 2006.
Interlochen is pleased to be able to help a number of students attend camp through scholarship assistance. Financial aid opportunities at Interlochen Arts Camp in 2006 include 52 full merit-based scholarships funded through a generous grant from St. Louis-based Emerson. Emerson Scholars applicants must be in grades nine through 12 and demonstrate exceptional proficiency on harp, string, wind or percussion instruments. An audition submitted on tape or CD is required with application, which must be postmarked by Feb. 15, 2006.
Interlochen alumni typically account for 15% of each incoming class at The Juilliard School and 10% of nation’s major orchestras. Notable Interlochen Arts Camp alumni include singers Josh Groban and Norah Jones, newsman Mike Wallace, New York Philharmonic conductor Lorin Maazel, and the creator of the “Cathy” comic strip, Cathy Guisewite.
Interlochen’s largest summer program, Interlochen Arts Camp features dozens of performing ensembles, 21 performance sites, 400+ student and faculty presentations, 25+ distinguished guest artist performances, and a 1200-acre wooded campus, including 120 cabins, 3 cafeterias and 2 glacial lakes with recreational frontage. Interlochen students enjoy a low camper/faculty ratio and a balance of education and recreation in an extraordinary camp setting. The pace is quick, the applause frequent. Students also can experience scores of talented guest artists who participate in the Interlochen Arts Festival.
In addition to Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Festival, Interlochen Center for the Arts also operates Interlochen Arts Academy ( http://www.interlochen.org/academy ), the nation’s premier fine arts boarding high school, which is now enrolling for the 2006-07 academic year.
