Washington State Governmental Accounting and Audit Conference Featured Donny Shimamoto as Inspirational Presenter

Donny Shimamoto was a featured presenter at the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants Governmental Accounting and Auditing Conference. The 2018 conference took place April 30th and May 1st at the Conference Center at Sea-Tac in Washington.

Attendees received updates on GASB standards as well as auditing considerations, technology advancements, and an overview of the Washington State economy. Emerging technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and accounting robotics provides opportunities for government accountants to focus on providing value-added decision support and guidance to their organizations that can help it better meet its mission and serve its constituents; Shimamoto's presentation highlighted these opportunities. 16 CPE credits were issued to attendees for continuing education fulfillment.

Donny Shimamoto commented on event, "Governments are often thought of as lagging in innovation, but many accounting technology changes from the business world can be used in government with little modification. Embracing change is hard for humans, but with government, we have the greater 'WHY' of serving the communities and maximizing the benefits provided by tax dollars. So it is even more imperative that government accountants shift to help their agencies make better use of taxpayer dollars, and improve the services provided to our communities."

Donny is a past chairman of the AICPA's Information Management & Technology Assurance Executive Committee, and former member of its Governing Council and Assurance Services Executive Committee. He has worked on several international collaborations between the AICPA and CIMA related to business intelligence and is also a frequent speaker on how management accountants can help add-value to their organizations via CGMA webcasts.

Donny has been recognized as a Top Thought Leader in Public Accounting by CPA Practice Advisor from 2012 through 2018, and one of the Top 100 Most Influential People by Accounting Today in 2013, 2014, and 2017.
