2006 will be a monumental year for him and Utopia Records. This year brings about the release of several new talented and original artists. Not only is he a record label owner; Alfonzo is a Top 10 Billboard charting saxophonist superstar/songwriter/producer and is also gearing up for his latest CD “Never Let You Go” scheduled for release May 30th. He is also on the rise of becoming a multi-media mogul with his new venture in founding and operating two of the fastest growing independent internet radio stations of its kind-SoulfulSmoothJazz.com Radio and SoulfulClassics.com Radio. The stations are smooth jazz, chill, classic soul and R&B formats which deliver stellar musical content and so much more broadcasting live from NYC.
Alfonzo Blackwell, a native New Yorker and one of the most prolific young black entrepreneurs within the music industry today has garnered a lot of success throughout his illustrious career. Alfonzo, first burst onto the contemporary jazz scene in 1995 with his debut CD titled, “Let’s Imagine” which was critically acclaimed and made him a breakout star. He has performed headlining shows for sold out audiences and opened up for artists such as Gladys Knight, The Whispers and Brian McKnight. Many musical legends and journalists have praised Alfonzo’s work throughout the years. As stated by legendary Grammy Award winning artist James Mtume, "The truth is needed to be told, just as this CD is needed to be heard.” Amsterdam News entertainment editor and syndicated columnist Vinette Price adds, "If we're lucky, once in a generation, a special individual comes along who engages, captivates and entertains us by blowing into an instrument. Lucky for us, this generation serves up Alfonzo Blackwell." Alfonzo also went on to compose themes for several movies which includes "Never Talk To Strangers" as well as television shows, also having co-written the theme song for the internationally successful television show, "Baywatch Nights". Alfonzo then founded Utopia Records in 1999 and garnered considerable praise and accolades for fostering a refreshing new platform for artists.
With all of his accomplishments, Alfonzo is also involved with and cares deeply for numerous non-profit and charitable organizations, including the Artist Empowerment Coalition (founded by L. Londell McMillan, Esq., and Prince) where he serves as a board member, the Rainbow House (a group home for infants with HIV), as well as various children's, minority and music-education programs. Alfonzo Blackwell is definitely a great legend in the making.
