The “Environmentally-Sound Technology” exhibition, a special showcase for clean technology, will open tomorrow (February 5, 2006) as an associate event of the 9th Governing Council Special Session/Global Ministerial Environment Forum 2006 (GCSS/GMEF) meetings that begin the session on February 7, 2006.The exhibition will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre that is also the venue for the UNEP meetings. Currently, the 7th Global Civil Society Forum (GCSF) and the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM), are being held at the same venue.
Dr. Mohamed Bin Fahad, Chairman and General Coordinator of the Zayed Prize Higher Committee, said: “The presence of more than 1,200 senior decision-makers from the Environment Ministries of 140 countries under one roof gives the exhibition the necessary target audience. The show will focus on procurers who are keen on acquiring new innovations in clean technology.”
Though wide ranging in nature, the exhibition will focus on three broad themes to demonstrate clean solutions in the following areas: “Elements”, “Connectivity” and “Life Cycles”.
While “Elements” will focus on physical and climate including mining, oil & gas, chemicals, power generation, construction, ozone-related technologies etc., “Connectivity” will focus on transport, information & communications technology, financial services, tourism etc.
“Life Cycles” will focus on plastics, steel, waste recycling, pharmaceuticals, food etc. Dr. Bin Fahad added: “The timing of the exhibition will help enormously in influencing the key market makers and buyers of environment-related technology. It is also an excellent and unique opportunity for those keen to shop for technologies to safeguard environment.”
For leading intergovernmental organizations, invited private companies, the International Press, Civil Societies and NGOs at the forum, the exhibition offers an opportunity to learn more about the latest in clean-technology.
With such a unique congregation of various organizations, governments and the private sector, the situation is ideal to showcase cleaner technology. This is because corporates look at setting good regulation and environment legislation at the heart of marketing opportunities. The exhibition will act as a perfect vehicle for developing contacts to access new markets.
“The show s being held at a venue where the UNEP with its reach and influence has brought together such an important group of policy makers and public buyers. This will surely set the stage in expediting the advent of cleaner technologies,” Dr. Bin Fahad observed.
