October 20, 2017 - The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) has won this year's Best Application (of Action Learning) Award from the World Institute for Action Learning (WIAL). The ECCB was recognized for exposing its entire staff complement to Action Learning as part of an innovative leadership development programme initiated in November 2016. The Award will be presented at an awards ceremony during WIAL's Global Annual Conference in Shanghai in October, 2017. The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, established as the first multi-state central bank in the world, issues currency, regulates the financial system and provides advice for balanced growth and development to the governments of its eight member countries.
The ECCB implemented the leadership development programme to rapidly develop agile leaders who can consistently deliver winning results in an increasingly tumultuous global environment. A team led by Mr Verieux Mourillon, Senior Action Learning Coach, designed and delivered the leadership development programme. Through Action Learning, ECCB managers were able to reframe existing problems to generate creative and effective breakthrough solutions; improve mutual respect across levels and functions of staff; and boost staff morale. ECCB is considering further use of Action Learning in its work at the departmental level and with stakeholder groups within its jurisdiction.
The ECCB has asked Dr Ruby Brown, Chief Executive Officer of the Management Institute of National Development, Jamaica to accept the award on its behalf. Dr Brown who is a member of the Advisory Board of WIAL Caribbean will be making a presentation to the conference on the use of Action Learning in Public Sector transformation.
WIAL Caribbean continues to promote the use of Action Learning in the Caribbean for leadership development, problem solving and team building through its growing complement of WIAL certified coaches. WIAL Caribbean currently has certified Action Learning Coaches in Anguilla, Barbados, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica.
