Pike and Predators, the monthly magazine for the pike and freshwater predator angler in the UK has just published its one hundredth issue. This particular milestone has proved to be especially meaningful for founding editor, James Holgate, who commented, “When we first hit the newsstands many in the trade doubted even then that a coarse fishing magazine without a substantial amount of carp fishing content could survive. I would guess that by the hundredth issue I would have proved my point!”
The magazine, which is produced by Predator Publications Ltd., was first published in 1996 as a bi-monthly publication, but switched to a monthly frequency in 1998. Further improvements and refinements have been added since then with the magazine turning to full colour reproduction in 2001.
“I feel that during its existence the magazine has grown and developed along with its readership.” Said James. “In fact, many of the developments in modern pike fishing which are now viewed as mainstream, especially in the lure and boat fishing sector, that are now taken for granted, were first brought to prominence in Pike and Predators.”
Another successful magazine, called Coarse Angling Today, was added to the company’s roster in 2001. This magazine focuses on species such as barbel, tench, chub and other coarse fish species.
The special bumper Issue 100 of Pike and Predators is due in the newsagents on 16th February
