Colts' Dungy to headline outreach telecast

January 23, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Lifestyle News
NAPLES, FL – Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy will be headlining the 19th annual, NFL™-sanctioned Super Bowl Breakfast telecast, airing live, in its entirety, February 4 exclusively on the Sky Angel nationwide, direct-to-home satellite television service. Sky Angel™ is among the nation's three DBS operators, along with DirecTV® and DISH™ Network.

NFL™ legend Bart Starr, players from the Super Bowl teams, and other pro football personalities past and present, will be joining Dungy for the event, hosted annually by Athletes in Action, the sports outreach ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ.

The live event airs from 8 to 10 a.m. ET (7am CT/6am MT/5am PT), Saturday, February 4, on Sky Angel's special events channel, Angel Two/Channel 9702, with an encore airing at 10 a.m. ET (9am CT/8am MT/7am PT) and a rebroadcast on February 5 at 5 p.m. ET (4pm CT/3pm MT/2pm PT).

Committed to offering the widest variety of Christian-inspirational TV and radio, plus family entertainment and 24-hour news, Sky Angel delivers its 36-channel service into homes, churches and more across America. Event organizers are encouraging homes and churches to coordinate outreach events around the telecast.

"Whether they have it in a church with a large group or in their home with a small group, we'd love for them to share it with people who don't normally attend church," said Athletes in Action spokeswoman Terry Bortz. "It's just a great opportunity to get the (Gospel) message across."

The annual breakfast, a premier event of Super Bowl week, draws crowds of close to 2,000 and provides a platform for high-profile sports personalities to share their faith in a way that is relevant to today's culture. Also appearing will be NFL™ Hall of Famers Anthony Munoz and Lem Barney; Detroit Lions stars Jason Hanson and Robert Porcher; and other NFL™ notables. Award-winning Gospel music artist Vickie Winans will also perform.

Central to the program will be the presentation of the 2006 Bart Starr Award, named for the Hall of Fame quarterback. Like every year since 1989 when the first award was presented, Starr will be on hand to present the award to the NFL™ player selected by a vote of his peers as the outstanding example of character and leadership in his home and community and on the field. Past recipients include Steve Largent, Mike Singletary, Reggie White, Cris Carter, Trent Dilfer and Darren Woodson.

Sky Angel will also be picking up two additional Athletes in Action sports breakfasts: All-Star Breakfast on February 18 and Legends of the Hardwood Breakfast on April 1. Both events will be carried on Angel Two.

The All-Star Breakfast, airing live from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET (9am CT/8am MT/7am PT), will feature special guests Jerry Colangelo, chairman & CEO of the Phoenix Suns; Morgan Ensberg of the Houston Astros; Chad Stanley of the Houston Texans; and Dikembe Mutombo of the Houston Rockets. Also, retired college basketball player and coach, John Wooden, will be honored with the President & Mrs. George H.W. Bush Community Impact Award. The Legends of the Hardwood Breakfast, airing live from 8 to 10 a.m. ET (7am CT/6am MT/5am PT), will highlight players from the men's college basketball Final Four Championships.
