MontgomeryPfeifer designed the new and innovative Cordless Ring Scanner (CRS) for Socket Communications, Inc (NASDAQ: SCKT). It contains a built-in wireless communicator and is one of the smallest and most durable single-finger scanner on the market. The CRS increases process efficiencies for various applications in environments such as warehousing and distribution centers, because it allows to handle materials, goods and packages while scanning the bar codes.
The industrial and mechanical design developed by MontgomeryPfeifer combines a functional and modern design language with four key usability aspects in multi-user, multi-tasking environments: mobility, comfort, durability and safety.
“We aimed at developing an efficient design solution that provides comfort and ease-of-use while guaranteeing maximum durability, which is key for the intended context of use,” said Paul Montgomery, co-founder of MontgomeryPfeifer.
It is ergonomically designed to fit comfortably on the index finger and is tethered to a Bluetooth unit that is strapped on the wrist, which transmits data wirelessly to a Bluetooth enabled mobile computer. The dual trigger system permits an ambidextrous usage. MontgomeryPfeifer focused on creating a design solution that is not only user-friendly and ergonomic, but also one that includes important safety features including a breakaway finger-strap. To enable a more compact design and guarantee maximum performance, the design studio selected an exclusive LiquidMetal™ casing material, which is over twice the strength of titanium. The advantages of the ruggedized LiquidMetal™ construction translate to a product of extreme durability and scratch-resistance.
The design of the CRS is part of an ongoing successful relationship with Socket, one that is dedicated on delivering a consistent product branding across Socket’s entire product line through a well thought out user-centered approach.
