Mahonia, a One-of-a-Kind Home Store and Floral Design Studio, Opens in Louisville's Nulu Neighborhood

March 4, 2016 - MAHONIA, a home store and creative floral boutique located in Louisville's Nulu neighborhood at 806 E Market Street, Louisville, KY 40206, announces its official opening on March 1, 2016, with a grand opening celebration during the first Friday Trolley Hop on March 4, 2016. Mahonia is a home store and floral design studio offering a unique mix of vintage and modern home decor, plants and floral.

Store Owner and Creative Director Bridget Davis grew up in Portland, Oregon, moving to Louisville in the spring of 2015. Having spent her life working with plants and flowers as a floral designer, garden designer, merchandiser and decorator, Mahonia has been an evolving concept for Ms. Davis, whose true happiness comes from bringing joy into the lives of others by creating beautiful spaces inside and out.

"We are thrilled to be opening Mahonia on East Market Street in Nulu," says Ms. Davis, "Our mix of plants and flowers, gifts and décor, offers something for everyone, from the established home-owner to those living in smaller, more urban settings. And services range from floral and terrarium design to classes and workshops."

Named after a yellow flowering shrub native to western North America which offers admirers an early sign of spring, the timing of the store opening is decidedly apropos. Mahonia will feature distinctive home goods such as vintage and modern home décor and accessories, gifts, plants, and flowers, along with an assortment of pots, containers and vases, for a beautiful and botanically inspired home or office.

Plants will include everything from tiny to tree-like, with a focus on varieties that offer unusual color and texture. And we'll also carry a large selection of Tillandsia (air plants), either sold separately or in pre-made or custom terrariums.

And the store's floral design studio offers creative, custom design for every day, or by special order for weddings, holiday gatherings, parties and other celebrations and events. Intimate small group classes and hands-on workshops on floral arranging, wreath making and terrarium design will also be provided in the future.

Mahonia will be open 6 days a week Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. The store's open, airy and inviting East Market location is conveniently located near the Please & Thank You coffee shop and bakery, in the space previously occupied by Why Louisville.

Along with her own floral and terrarium design work, Ms. Davis will also feature plants, pottery, pillows and linens, scarves, hand-made cards, jewelry, candles, and bath/body products in the store.
