The London - Milan Dual City Summer Sessions 2006

Students, new designers and professionals from around the world are invited for the first time to enrol in a unique opportunity to study across two major design capitals during summer 2006. The London - Milan Dual City Summer Sessions are a collaboration between two internationally renowned design colleges; Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London and Domus Academy in Milan.

These institutions are regarded as leaders in the field of Art and Design and have come together to develop an exciting series of four-week courses that enable students to begin their studies in London and complete them in Milan. London and Milan are vibrant cities incorporating world-class museums, galleries, design centres and fashion houses – inspirational settings for any creative studies.

The summer sessions run from 3 – 28 July 2006. The courses cover four key disciplines: Fashion, Graphic Design, Interior Design and Product Design. There will be a beginners and advanced level courses in each of the subjects.

Our staff and students continue to build on the success of our past by pushing the boundaries of the practice of art and design and art and design education.

In 2005 Central Saint Martins welcomed 3,350 students on to more than 280 art, design and performance summer courses. The Dual City Summer Sessions are the first time that a collaboration of this sort has taken place at the college.

Domus Academy and NABA

For more than 20 years, Domus Academy in Milan has shared an eminent place on the world stage as an international postgraduate school representing today what Bauhaus and the Ulm School meant in their time. Winner of the Compasso d’Oro, Italy’s most sought after design award, with a magisterial list of past lecturers such as Ettore Sottsass, Philippe Starck, Gianfranco Ferré, Neil Barrett and Ron Arad. Domus Academy has always been a true pioneer of “Made in Italy” not simply teaching how to design products, but considering design as a complex, challenging activity which strategically contributes to direct the form and meaning of the industrial production and culturally outlines different aesthetic and social visions.
Today, Domus Academy welcomes hundreds of students from over 50 countries to its new, state of the art, 2.400 m2 teaching and multimedia facilities in the Naviglio (canals) area of the city, to play a part in its innovative and non-conformist vision of universal renown.
The Milan sections of the beginner courses are run by NABA, sister school of Domus Academy. NABA is an academy of arts and design which was formed in 1980 by a group of artists, aimed at challenging the rigid academic tradition by introducing new visions and languages closer to contemporary artistic practice and the creative professions. NABA training programs are based on a cross-disciplinary method aimed at developing artistic-professional skills and profiles in the fields of art, design, fashion, media and graphic design.
