CLEARWATER, FL, February 6, 2016 - Enigma Software Group USA, LLC ("ESG") responded to a recent press barrage launched by Bleeping Computer LLC and its owner Lawrence Abrams. ESG filed suit against Bleeping Computer in federal court in New York on January 5, 2016. The complaint, available here, alleges false advertising, defamation, and related claims.Specifically, the complaint alleges that Bleeping Computer operates a website that purports to provide unbiased reviews of computer security software but actually promotes the sale of specific software products, receives commissions from the publishers of those products, and does not clearly disclose its self-interest. The complaint also alleges that Bleeping Computer has knowingly made false statements about ESG and its software products.
"ESG filed suit against Bleeping Computer because Bleeping Computer is misleading the public and harming fair competition in the marketplace," said ESG spokesperson Ryan Gerding. "The company wrote to Bleeping Computer before filing suit and asked them to stop, but they refused."
Bleeping Computer has stated in several media outlets that ESG filed the law suit in reaction to a "bad review" of ESG products.
"The case has nothing to do with a bad review," Gerding said. "Bleeping Computer and Mr. Abrams are free to like or dislike ESG's products. What they are not free to do is pretend they are providing unbiased reviews in order to drive sales of products where they get commissions."
ESG has no intention of trying this case online or in the press. The complaint ESG filed speaks for itself, and ESG is confident it will prevail on its claims. The company does not plan to make any further public statements about the case.
