THE EDCOMM GROUP OFFERS TRAINING TO BANKERS ON FINANCIAL ELDER ABUSE
January 21, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
The Edcomm Group announces the unveiling of a new eLearning program – Focus on Financial Elder Abuse.Because the complicated nature of managing their finances puts many elderly banking patrons in the vulnerable position of becoming victims of financial fraud, it’s estimated that 5 million seniors are victims of financial exploitation, physical abuse or neglect annually. Sadly, approximately 84% of elder abuse cases go unreported. To address this situation, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation in August 2005 holding California banks and other financial institutions liable should they fail to report suspicions of financial elder abuse.
This legislation is part of a nationwide trend to increase oversight of our country’s aging population by those who deal with elders. The upsurge in financial elder abuse has become a major concern for banks and insurance companies, resulting in the growing need for platform, teller, sales, and customer service representatives who are trained to recognize and report such abuse.
In response to this need, The Edcomm Group has created Focus on Financial Elder Abuse, a comprehensive eLearning program providing training on issues related to financial elder abuse. Beginning with “Common Elder Abuse Schemes” to “Why Are the Elderly Targeted,” participants will learn about Financial Elder Abuse in an interactive eLearning environment designed to increase both comprehension and retention. Focus on Financial Elder Abuse emphasizes both recognition and reporting, and is geared towards teaching participants how to identify elder abuse and how to protect both their customers and the bank, with accurate, compliant reporting.
