Balcony 7 Media to Publish new Literary Tech Novella Series about the Age of Distraction

November 4, 2015 - Balcony 7 Media (www.balcony7.com) signs author Patricia Mahon and her edgy, multi-book series that explores the impact of the digital age on interpersonal relationships, self-expression, and storytelling.

Stories from the Age of Distraction is a tale about two friends that invent a global storytelling app in an effort to save creative expression from the rise of algorithms and automated reasoning. The app is a dynamic platform where anyone, anywhere in the world can contribute a line to a collective narrative.

As the world's story unfolds, the book's characters follow along. The inaugural story, The Island, takes readers from the California desert, to Silicon Valley, to Bolivia, Brazil and the small, remote island of Ilha do Mel (Honey Island) in the South Atlantic.

Along the way we hear from the titans of literature and thought … Shakespeare, Victor Hugo, Dylan Thomas, WB Yeats, Herman Melville, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Robert Frost, Walt Whitman, Lord Alfred Tennyson, Franz Kafka, Eudora Welty, etc.

The app ultimately helps the story's characters break through to the poetry of the natural world as each experience a literary epiphany that makes them fall back in love with words. They ultimately "slip through time and sidestep life … toss their humanity to the Earth, dangle their feet in the pools of destiny, drink in the colors of Eden … and fall back in love with being …"

Mahon (www.pmmahon.com) is an award-winning poet, screenwriter, playwright, and a former teaching fellow and writing instructor. She is a native of New York with dual Irish/American citizenship and currently resides in Los Olivos, California.
