More MP3s Released By Ambient Podcaster

Mark Rushton, the podcaster from Iowa whose ambient-flavored shows have been a hit on the internet and such services as Apple's iTunes, has decided to release all of the tracks from his recent podcast "What Does An Iowa Winter Sound Like?" on his website at mp3.markrushton.com

Rushton hopes that the tracks, created mostly with bass player Jon Harnish, will be downloaded and enjoyed by individuals, as well as podcasters seeking material for their own shows.

To allow this, Rushton has given what is known as a Creative Commons license on four of the five tracks. Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that offers flexible copyright licenses for creative works. Rushton chose to license the works through Creative Commons non-commercially and and without any derivative versions allowed. This allows people to download the music freely, trade and file share it with others, and use it in their own podcasts or radio shows. Those who use Rushton and Harnish's music in podcasts or other non-commercial uses should acknowledge the creators of the music.

In the past, such podcasters as the popular Zencast have played Rushton's tracks. Rushton hopes that licensing music under Creative Commons will allow greater exposure by telling people that it's OK to use certain pieces of music.

Rushton has been a member of ASCAP since 2002, but remains open to allowing many of his works to be used on a non-commercial basis due to the sheer volume of work that he and Harnish have released over the internet and via podcasts over the past year.
