January 27, 2015 - Longview, TX – Darr Dentistry, a cosmetic and family dental office, has donated their time to help women in their community seek employment and improved self-sufficiency through Heartisans Marketplace. As the first female dentist who set up shop in Longview, Texas, Krista S. Darr, DDS is particularly connected to other women living in her community. Dr. Darr states, "As a dental practice, we aim to help people get healthier with professional oral health treatments, but there are plenty of people in our community who need more assistance in order to have fulfilled and healthy lives. Both myself and my associate dentist, Ryan Darr, DDS, are excited to work with Heartisans Marketplace to strengthen the lives of women in our area."
Heartisans Marketplace is a Longview non-profit organization that depends on volunteer assistance to help provide valuable services to women in their community. Underserved, or underemployed, participants in the Heartisans Marketplace program learn skills in the way of hand-producing consumer goods that are then sold to raise money for continued training and professional development.
"We viewed the Heartisans Marketplace training program as an innovative opportunity to help members of our community acquire skills that will lead to employment and increased success and independence," Dr. Darr adds. "We are connected to our community through the patients we see every day and are thrilled to be reaching out to provide continued support for our friends and neighbors who need it most."
Through the Heartisans Marketplace internship, women receive no-cost job skills training that helps them acquire employment and build networks of relationships that support independent living.
