The Wine School of Philadelphia is transforming itself into the The WineSchool of Provençe this spring.
The school's ambitious overseas wine programs begins in April at its new location in Provençe. The campus is situated on a vineyard in the Bouches du Rhone region of Provençe, and several minutes from the Chapoutier's famed Domaine des Beates winery.
The week long program is built to immerse the attendees in the culture of a wine region, as well as bringing students into the vineyard. Students will be given a chance to understand not only the wine, but the place that created it.
“Many wine professionals talk about terroir, but have little knowledge of what it really means.” Says Keith Wallace, director of the Wine School of Philadelphia. “It has to do with the people and their society, as much as it does with a certain plot of ground.”
The program is being overseen by Mr. Wallace personally. A maximum of 10 people, plus school staff, will be able to attending the program. “We have built the program around the wants & needs of the attendees”, says Keith. “Some will want a rigorous lesson in vineyard management, while others will be more interested in visiting the Roman ruins. Its up to them.”
For that reason, the school's live-in campus is one of the most luxurious houses in the region. “We wanted the most beautiful location in the most beautiful place on earth”, says Keith. The program is part of the school's non-profit overseas ventures. Cost per student (not including travel costs or meals) is $900 for the 7-day program (April 22nd -29th 2006)
