October 4, 2014 - "Beyond Bellamy Crossing," Herbert Johnson Pittman's autobiography of adventure, has been released by RoseDog Books. "Beyond Bellamy Crossing" passionately tells the tale of the author's many travels stateside and overseas.Herbert Johnson Pittman was born August 1, 1930 in Bellamy Crossing near Allenton, NC. He was the fourth child of six children, of James Bethel and Emma Caledonia Pittman. He was named after his mother's brother, Herbert Todd, who died at the age of 26.
Upon completion of high school, the author joined the United States Air Force and his 20 year career sent him to Guam, Korea, Vietnam, the Mariana Islands, Turkey, Libya, Tripoli, Texas, Mississippi, and North Dakota.
From exploring the caves and jungles of Guam and finding a beautifully preserved American B-24 Bomber, "Lady Be Good," in the shifting sands of the Saharan Desert, to raising families out of a trailer in Mississippi, Georgia, and North Dakota, Herbert Johnson Pittman has lived a rich life full of adventure and wonder.
When he retired in 1989, Herbert Johnson Pittman moved to Laurinburg, NC where he built the house he still lives in today. Although the author leads a quieter life in his later years, his adventures will never die…
