The American Dream comes true for Vietnam native at Boston based Hub Plumbing and Mechanical.

The American Dream is alive and well at Hub Plumbing and Mechanical in Boston, MA where a positive attitude and hard work paid off for a young Vietnamese man from Dorchester.

Tom Phan was a legal alien who spoke marginal English and was working in a Vietnamese restaurant when he first joined Hub’s apprentice program. His transformation began as Hub’s mentoring system swung into gear, encouraging Phan to develop his English skills through ongoing ESL training. As a Hub apprentice, Phan quickly grasped the basics of plumbing and mechanical systems by accompanying a licensed Hub technician on his rounds where Phan, learned the in and outs of plumbing terms and tools.

Phan enrolled in the Cape Cod Plumbing School, at Hub’s expense, and determinedly learned the technical skills that he would need to know to become a licensed service technician. As a fully licensed plumber at Hub, Phan’s American dream has finally come true.

Bursting with pride Phan points to the giant strides he has made in his life, progressing from a restaurant worker with little English to a fully licensed plumber, US Citizen, and homeowner in the USA. Phan exclaims, “I am thrilled to be part of the Hub team! They were my mentors who helped me achieve my dreams.”

When Phan isn’t on the job for Hub he can be found fixing up his home in Dorchester, MA, which has truly become Phan’s American castle. He loves to show off his culinary skills in his very own kitchen, light years away from the restaurant kitchen where he once toiled. Phan also continues to diligently study English, perfecting his mastery of his adopted language.

As an active member of the Vietnamese American Civic Association, Phan offers encouragement and help to others as they embark on their own quest to achieve the American Dream, ever thankful for his own opportunity to pursue his dreams.
