After 5 years of making tooth fairy pillows for family and friends, Amy Beabout launched her own business. AmyLou Designs, Inc. began selling children’s pillows November 1st, 2004. The Wichita, KS based company features hand-made, one-of-a-kind pillows in the shape of a tooth. Beabout also wrote and trademarked a booklet to accompany the pillows.

Beabout began creating these pillows in the hospital with her son. A need for a creative outlet motivated her to begin the company when enough interest had developed. Beabout and 8-year-old son Clay go to San Antonio, TX twice a year for surgery, with the Titanium Rib Project*, leaving her with plenty of time on her hands.

The Titanium Rib Project, approved Aug. 2004 by FDA, was established by Drs. Smith and Campbell in 1989. Children with impaired pulmonary function caused by skeletal abnormalities qualify for the expandable vertical titanium ribs offered by the project. Beabout is setting aside a portion of the proceeds from each pillow to be given to the Titanium Rib Foundation, 501(c)3 pending, established by Beabout. Funds will be used to make families long-term visits to the hospital more accommodating.

Beabout, a former elementary teacher, lives with her husband of 15 years and 4 children ranging in age from 6-11. The family has lived in Wichita, KS for almost 3 years. Each family member is involved in different ways with the start-up of this company that hopes to significantly impact other families with similar issues to Clay.

The pillows are available in over 30 different designs for both boys and girls. Pillows can be purchased through www.toothfairypillow.net or by calling 316-733-0078/1-866-733-0078.
