Psychiatry: An Industry Of Death

On the heels of the opening of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights museum called “Psychiatry: An Industry of Death”, more evidence of psychiatry’s brutal practices came to light when nine women who were sterilized at Riverview Psychiatric Hospital in Coquitlam, British Columbia won a $450,000 settlement from the provincial government this week. .

The women were sterilized between 1940 and 1968 while they were patients at the British Columbia hospital.

Psychiatry’s Sexual Sterilization Act of 1933 was in force until it was abolished in 1973. Women sterilized in Alberta mental hospitals have, in the past, also successfully sued the Alberta government for compensation.

Brian Beaumont, president of the Vancouver chapter of CCHR said, " Along with all the other despicable things going on in the world of psychiatry recently, there have been 18 psychiatric drug warnings issued in the last year alone, which link suicide, hostility, worsening depression, mania, hallucinations and death to psychiatric drugs that reap $80 billion dollars a year-an abuse CCHR has persistently exposed for three decades."

Psychiatrist and infamous Nazi Collaborator, Heinrich Gross, who was implicated in nine deaths as part of a Nazi plot to eliminate "worthless lives" in Vienna's infamous Am Spiegelgrund clinic, died.

The people who actually survived the clinic had accused Gross of killing or taking part in the clinic's experiments on thousands of children pronounced to be physically, mentally or otherwise unfit by “psychiatry’s standards”. Unfortunately, Gross never spent any time in jail for his crimes.

In Carmel, Indiana psychiatrist David Kennedy, 55, was found dead last week one day after he was charged with Medicaid and insurance fraud for over- billing on counseling work at his Kokomo clinic. Kennedy had been suspended as medical director of the Logansport State Hospital because of the charges which related to his private clinic. The police think he committed suicide.

Over 300 psychiatrists, psychologists and mental health professionals worldwide have been criminally convicted of sex crimes in the last 27 years according to various court documents and media reports gathered worldwide by chapters of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights. Hundreds of others have lost their licenses in that same time period. These figures do not take into account women who have been reluctant to file charges or who were unwilling or unable to come forward.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights was established by the Church of Scientology to investigate and expose psychiatric violations of human rights.
