About the Author
Author and Chief Operations Specialist Steve T. Canty began his U.S. Navy career on June 19, 1990 after graduating from Elloree High School in Orangeburg, South Carolina. His naval career has been extensive and taken him to locations ranging from home in South Carolina to Spain and Bosnia. He severed two Gulf Deployments and one Mediterranean cruise. During this Mediterranean cruise, Steve Canty met his wonderful wife, Antoinette Smalls.
In 1998, he attended Aegis School in Wallops Island, VA and was assigned to the USS Hue City (CG-66) in Mayport, Fl in 1998. While there he attended ASTAC (Anti-Surface/Subsurface Tactical Air Control) School and began an illustrious career as an air controller extending the surveillance and weapons range of his command.
In December of 2001, Chief Canty received orders to Master-At-Arms "A" School Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. While in Air Control School he accumulated over 1,000 hours of air control time. He was recognized as Sailor of the Year in 2005.
Chief Steve Canty is the son of Eartha Mae Darby of Santee, SC and the husband of Antoinette D. Canty of Charleston, SC. He has a younger Sister Shawanda who is married and lives in Columbia, SC and a younger brother Terrell who lives in Santee, SC.
